ABOUT St ARNAUD

St Arnaud is a town the Wimmera area of Victoria, Australia 244 kilometres north west of the capital Melbourne It is in the Northern Grampians local government area. At the 2016 Census St Arnaud had a population of 2,193

It is named after French marshal Jacques Leroy de Saint Arnaud, commander-in-chief of the army of the East. It is one of quite a number of towns, streets etc. named after people and places of the Crimean War.

 St Arnaud is a former gold mining town, situated on the main route between Ballart and Mildura. The town was settled in the mid-1850s, the post office opening on 1 February 1856

The town features many well-preserved historic buildings which line the main thoroughfare of Napier Street, including a generous collection of pubs. A number of attractive gardens exist in town, including Pioneer Park (believed to be Australia's only remaining public park designed by Edna Walling), the Queen Mary Botanic Gardens, the Market Square garden adjacent to the council offices and Lord Nelson Park which offers sporting facilities as well as attractions such as the old Lord Nelson Mine and views from Wilsons Hill.

OUR VISION

Our vision for 2018 includes an ecumenical Way of the Cross, and Animal Blessing

Emergency services Blessing and a Men's breakfast. 

We will also be holding a youth focused worship service once a month.

WHAT WE DO

Our mission ranges from local to global:

  • we support the Christmas Bowl, BCA, Lenten Appeal, Nungalinya College in Darwin

  • Fortnightly and monthly services to Aged Care facilities

  • We hold a Rose show and Strawberry Fair annually in October 

  • The Spirit Magazine delivery to interested people and businesses

  • Shrove Tuesday Pancake night in St Arnaud and Pancakes for Bealiba School Children

  • Fortnightly Craft Afternoon which included in 2017 collecting items for and putting together 'Dignity Handbags' for homeless women.

  • Catering for funerals, and community fundraising activities

  • Support for Theos - Ecumenical School Holiday Program

  • Occasional presentations at the primary school (Easter and Christmas)

  • Monthly Numbers Up (Bingo) at Bealiba

  • Social Committee and Pastoral Care group
